Why You Need Morning Routine As A Work From Home Mom
Creating a morning routine as a work from home mom can be life-changing.
As a mom of three kids, five and under, I know how hard it can be to balance making time for yourself before the morning chaos of getting the kids ready for the day and ensuring you’re on time for work.
Since creating a morning routine that works for me, I’ve noticed a significant shift in my productivity and ability to show up as the best version of myself for my husband and my kids. I used to wake up dreading my mornings because I was anxious thinking about everything that needed to be done before getting the kids out of the door.
I want to share with you what my morning routine looks like as a working mom and give you a few tips on creating one of your own to help you balance motherhood and work.
This post is all about creating a morning routine as a work from home mom.
My Morning Routine As A Work From Home Mom
5:30 am- Wake & Get Dressed
I typically wake up around 5:30 a.m. every morning to shower and head to the gym. I’ve found that getting a 45-minute workout in the morning helps me feel productive right from the start. Honestly, if I don’t get my workout in the morning, I probably won’t work out at all that day.
6:00 am- Head To The Gym For 45 Minute Workout
If I can’t make it to the gym, I will substitute a home workout. Since starting the 75 Soft Challenge about a week ago, I have tried to make sure I close my rings every day! As a working mom, I know how hard it can be to make time for ourselves. My new motto has been to take care of yourself before you can take care of your family. One small habit of waking up earlier has made a difference for my mental and physical health.
7:15 am- Get The Girls Ready For The Day
When I get home from the gym, I wake the girls to prepare them for the day. This consists of bathing them, brushing their teeth, cooking breakfast, and doing their hair. Although my one-year-old is still at home with me throughout the day, I still find that my days go so much easier when I get her ready around the same time as my five- and three-year-old.
During this time, I will also unload the dishwasher or any quick clean in any room of the house to make my day easier.
8:00 am- Log On For Work
I work from home as a project manager, so I like to start my days as early as possible. I check my emails and review my calendar on my phone while the kids are eating breakfast.
8:15- Kids Drop Off
I’m lucky that my husband and I both work from home, so we alternate days to drop off the kids in the mornings. This has made my mornings more stress-free and productive because I could have used the time that I would have spent driving the kids to school for quiet time to read or get ahead on work for the day.
9:00- Back Home
After returning home from dropping the kids off on my drop-off days, I try to make myself a quick breakfast (which doesn’t always happen because sometimes I forget, lol). I give my toddler a few toys for independent play and jump right into work for a couple of hours, with a few breaks in between to tend to her and to get up and stretch.
Tips For Creating A Morning Routine
As mentioned above, creating a morning routine as a work from home mom is a life changer. However, you have to be very intentional about the activities that are important to include to make your day go as smoothly as possible. Below are a few tips to help you create the best morning routine for your lifestyle.
Prepare The Night Before
Truth be told, your morning routine actually starts the night before. I complete my night routine every night before bed to prepare for success the following day. Preparing the night before includes setting goals for the next day and being very specific about what needs to get done, cleaning the kitchen and living room, picking out the girl’s clothes, and choosing my workout for the next morning.

Wake Up 1 Hour Before Your Children
If you don’t do anything else, please wake up before your children. Having at least one hour of peace and quiet with no one calling you or needing anything is a godsend. This time can be used to do anything you need to help get yourself grounded or do something for yourself outside of being a mom! I personally use this time to work out or read a book!
Get Dressed
After having my second baby, I realized how important it is to shower and dress for the day. It doesn’t matter if you shower and put on another pair of pajamas. I’m telling you, it makes a huge difference in how you feel. This has become a non-negotiable for me as a working mom. Even if I wake up later than I would have liked. My husband and my kids have an understanding that mommy’s day doesn’t start unless she’s showered & fully dressed.
Morning Chores
As a work-from-home mom, I know the chores are neverending. I recommend including a few chores in your morning routine to make your evenings after work easier. I follow a weekly cleaning schedule, so I typically start by unloading the dishwasher and washing the dishes from breakfast. I would also start cleaning whatever room is on the list for the day based on my cleaning schedule.
