The Ultimate Monthly Reset Routine for Working Moms
Have you ever reached the end of a month feeling like it flew by in the blink of an eye?
That was me too girl! I often have so many responsibilities pulling me in different directions that I feel like I’m constantly fighting to play catch up.
Whether that’s with my goals or never-ending laundry. This is why as a working mom, monthly reset routines are non-negotiable these days.
At the start of each month, I take time to reflect, plan, and reset different areas of my life, from my goals and finances to my home and iCloud drive (iykyk). This monthly routine helps me refocus on my goals, stay on top of priorities, and set the tone for a more productive and balanced month ahead.
In this blog post, I’ll share how monthly resets help me stay organized as a full-time working mom and how you can implement monthly reset routines in your own life. Whether you’re looking for a way to reset your mindset, declutter your space, or create a plan for the month ahead, this post will give you practical tips to make the process work for you.
This blog post is all about a monthly reset routine for working moms.
What is a Monthly Reset?
A monthly reset is a dedicated time you set aside towards the beginning or end of each month to reflect, organize, and set intentions for the weeks ahead. I like to use this time to review last month’s goals and set new ones, plan for important dates and appointments, deep clean, and do our bulk grocery shopping from Sam’s or Costco. Think of it as a fresh start each month, where you get back on track with all your chores, and goals and reassess what your main priorities are for the month.
Why Monthly Resets Are Essential for Working Moms
Listen, I love a good routine and having systems in place to make life as a working mom easier. Without a system to reset and plan ahead, it’s easy to fall into survival mode, constantly reacting to things that are being thrown at you whether they are important or not. That’s where a monthly reset comes in.
Here’s how a monthly reset makes life easier:
- Reduces stress by planning in advance – Instead of scrambling to remember appointments, deadlines, or when you last deep-cleaned the fridge, a monthly reset gives you a chance to organize everything in one go. Less mental clutter = more peace of mind.
- Makes goal setting doable – no more setting huge, overwhelming goals. A monthly reset lets you break your annual goals down into small, realistic steps. Whether it’s saving money, getting in more workouts, reading more books, or carving out family time, you’ll actually make progress instead of wondering why you’ve made no real progress toward your goals year over year.
- Reminds You to Prioritize Yourself – Between taking care of work, kids, and the household, self-care is usually the last thing on our minds. A reset is a built-in moment to fill your cup first before thinking about anything or anyone else. I recommend scheduling self-care time on your calendar at LEAST once a month whether that’s booking a spa day, getting your nails done, or simply just having a kid-free day to sleep in. It’s important to remind yourself to take care of yourself first.
My Monthly Reset Process
Clean & Restock My House

A cluttered space leads to a cluttered mind, so I always start my monthly reset by tidying up. This includes decluttering, deep cleaning, organizing my workspace, and clearing out my iCloud and memory card. I also restock household essentials to make sure we have everything we need for the month ahead.
Reflect on the Past Month
If you watch my YouTube channel you would know that I’m a Notion girlie. So, before planning for the new month, I take a moment to look back on the previous month using one of the many notion templates to keep me organized.
I review what went well, what could have been better, and any lessons learned ( as much as I try to avoid it, project management frameworks follow me in my personal life ).
I have a list of questions that I go through at the end of each month to help with my reflections and setting more realistic goals for the month ahead.
Some of these questions include:
What new habits do you want to adopt this month?
What are you most looking forward to this month?
What is currently working?
What is currently not working?
What could have been better?
Whether it’s journaling, using my iPad planner, or looking through my habit tracker, this step helps me move forward with intention.
Set Goals & Intentions for the New Month
With a clean house and a clear mind, I set goals and intentions for different areas of my life which include: personal, finances, health & wellness,s and career.
When setting goals for each area of my life I always I make sure my goals are realistic and I have a very clear intention behind each of those goals.
To keep me from setting random and ambiguous goals, as I’m setting goals for a new month I ask myself the following questions:
What is the purpose of this goal?
How does it help you move the needle toward your overall annual goals?
Plan the Month Ahead
Once my goals are set, I map out important dates, appointments, deadlines, and family activities in my digital planner, our refrigerator calendar, and our shared family Google calendar. I also schedule time for self-care, workouts, and any personal projects so that I stay balanced throughout the month.
Tips for Starting Your Own Monthly Reset
Let me start by saying that there is no specific routine that you HAVE to follow.
At the end of the day, what works for me, might not necessarily work for you. So you have to figure out what makes sense to include in your monthly resets for you and your family. Below are a few tips that I would recommend to get you started.
- Keep it simple – Start with just one or two focus areas. When I first started doing monthly resets, my primary focus was tracking goals for my content creation journey. After a few months of implementing these monthly resets, I then started to include other areas of my life.
- Declutter & Organize – As mentioned above, a cluttered space can lead to a cluttered mind. Take time during your reset to:
- Clean your home – Tidy up, deep clean those forgotten about areas in the home, go grocery shopping, donate unused items
- Organize your digital life – Clear emails, update calendars, delete unnecessary files from your computer and iCloud Drive
- Declutter your mind – Brain dump tasks and ideas into a notebook or planning app.
- Set Goals & Plan Your Month – I’m an iPad & Notion girlie, so all of my monthly planning is done digitally. I love Notion because it’s free. You can start from a blank slate and create your own templates or you can download free (or paid) templates from other creators.

Using notion or whatever a planner of your choice, set some new goals for the upcoming month. Break them down into different areas of your life. Some examples include:
- Personal – Self-care, reading, exercise, hobbies
- Family – weekend activities/trips, vacations, meal planning
- Work/Career – Projects, professional development, productivity
- Finances – Budgeting, saving, tracking expenses
Now that your goals for the month are set. Be sure to map out key events, deadlines, and priorities. Some things to include:
- Work meetings & deadlines
- Family activities
- Important reminders (bills due, birthdays, appointments, vacations)
- Reset Your Finances – if you’re anything like me, you are a recovering overspender. As much as I hate it, I take time during my monthly resets to review how much money I have coming in from my side hustle and how much money I’ve spent for the month.
Budgeting has completely changed how I view money and spending. I will admit I still have a long way to go but this is a step in the right direction.
Use this time to review and reset your finances:
- Check your bank statements and spending habits.
- Adjust your budget if needed.
- Set savings goals or plan for upcoming expenses.
- Prioritize Self-Care – As a busy working mom, self-care often takes a backseat. Use your monthly reset to schedule intentional self-care, whether that’s a spa day, reading a book, or simply getting extra sleep.
